Obiano flags off Aguleri Uno – Oil Well Road, plans direct access to the Oil Rig



The governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano has reiterated that the on-going construction of rural roads will open up the hinterland and enhance effective harnessing of Agricultural and Economic potential of rural communities.

Governor Obiano stated so while flagging of the Aguleri Uno – Aguleri Out – Enugu Out – Oil Well Road at Aguleri Junction.

“The forty-two kilometer road awarded at the contract sum of N14.6 billion and a completion period of 26 months has two bridges linking the various communities in the area and providing direct access to the oil rig” He said.

Governor Obiano noted that when completed the road would stimulate multiplier effect in adding value to Agricultural Value Chain and facilitate the operation of Orient Refinery with production capacity of 65 barrel per day.

Chief Obiano assured this project would attract oil and gas industries and fast tract overall development of the area, urging the people to give the contractor total support to complete the project on schedule and according to specification.

The commissioner for works, Sir Callistus Ilozumba explained that the road has a standard bridge of 225m, road marking, culverts, drainage systems, street lights and other components of a standard road. Sir Callistus said the contractor has been fully mobilized and the Ministry of Works will ensure strict monitoring of the project.

In his reaction, the traditional ruler of Aguleri, Igwe Christopher Idigo recalled that several efforts to attract governments’ attention to the road over the years did not yield result.

Earlier in his address, the chairman of Anambra East local council, Mr Hillary Udani called on investors to take advantage of the present opportunity to explore resources in the communities connected by the road.
