Anambra State House of Assembly Commends Obiano

In a move seen as a rare occurrence in the history of the Anambra State House of Assembly, the Honourable members in a unanimous motion on Monday August 6, 2014 commended the State Governor Chief Willie Obiano for his achievements in office so far and urged him to keep up the tempo of development across the State. The House members spoke in unison during their first business session on resumption from recess on the heels of the governor’s First 100days in office.
Ruling on the motion sponsored by Hon Gabriel Onyenweife, member representing Ayamelum Constituency and 28 other members, Hon Speaker of the House Princess Chinwe Nwaebili said, “Be it therefore resolved that the House hereby commend the Governor of Anambra State Chief (Dr) Willie Obiano, for his achievements so far in office. The House also commends the Governor of Anambra State for his achievements in office so far and urge him to sustain the tempo.”
According to the Hon Speaker “Governor Obiano has already exceeded expectations in the performance of the Four Pillars of Development he set for the State by effectively fighting crime amongst other things. We want to commend him and promise that the House is committed to work with him because the Executive and the Legislature need each other to continue doing well.”
Hon Princess Nwaebili thanked the House for doing well and for recognizing and commending Governor Obiano for doing well too. “I thank Chief Obiano and pray that God will direct and protect him and give him more zeal to continue the good work he is doing for Ndi Anambra.” The Speaker concluded.
Sponsoring the Motion, Hon Gabriel Onyenweife said, “Whereas His Excellency, Governor Willie Obiano was elected on 30th November 2013 and sworn-in on 17th march 2014, and went through the most peaceful transfer of power in Anambra State. Aware that His Excellency Governor Willie Obiano promised to work with 4-Pillars of Development; whereas he has achieved commendable achievement by motivating, supporting and sponsoring the security agencies and equipping them with sophisticated crime fighting techniques, and creating enabling environment for actualization of the four Pillars and decongested places like upper Iweka; and whereas Ndi Anambra are generally happy with his achievements within a few months in office, I move that he be commended.”
Supporting the motion, all the Hon members spoke glowingly of Governor Willie Obiano and the achievements he has made in so short a time. In his contribution, Hon Emeka Chukwuemeka said, “the facts speak for themselves. We are all aware that the Governor is just about 130 days in office, like an advert said, ‘the difference is clear.’ We have seen the high rate of crime reduce, and we know the new joke about Upper Iweka now, “drop your bag and come back later, you will meet it intact. The confidence of Ndi Anambra has been restored. The revolution in Agriculture has seen the employment of up to 2500 by Coched Farms, not to mention the plans for power to support the industrial town of Nnewi and the data base of unemployed youths in LGAs etc calls for commendation for our Governor.”
On his part, the Minority Leader and APC member representing Idemmili, Hon Tony One-week Muonagor, said “I commend Governor Obiano’s amiability. Whatever he does, he carries everyone along. Government is all of us and the government is doing well and we commend him as leader.” Concurring, Hon Valentine Ayika, PDP, Njikoka 1 Constituency said, “I see proactivity, practicality and activism. He is taking it to the next level, he has brought in consistency by not abandoning projects and if only for that he deserves commendation.”
On his part, Hon Kingsley Iruba representing Nnewi South 1 said, “Governor Obiano has shown that our votes are not in vain. During the campaign, he promised to complete; commission and commence new projects. He is a man of his words. He is the people’s Governor.” Hon Ikem Uzoezue added his commendation when he observed, “ Obiano has shown that he is going to be a great governor that Anambra will remember in a very long time.” While Hon Ume Ikechukwu, representing Aguata 1 thanked God for giving Governor Obiano to Ndi Anambra. He surmised with a brief anecdote, “in my active football days during a match between Rangers and Plateau United, ikechukwu Abana shouted shouted on the sidelines,” Oseke is ubiquitous,” immediately we left the pitch I consulted Micheal West dictionary which explained,”Oseke is everywhere.” Obiano is everywhere and I commend him.”
Commenting on the development, a political chieftain, Mr Ekene Chukwu, said that the unanimous commendation is a clear vote of confidence on Governor Willie Obiano. He noted that such consensus had never been witnessed in the Anambra State House of Assembly, stressing that it really shows that Obiano is doing something right and should by supported by Ndi Anambra irrespective of party affiliation.
