In fulfillment of
his promise to give a befitting funeral to fallen heroes from the State, the
Executive Governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano has set up an Ad-hoc Committee
for the funeral ceremony of the former Minister of Information, and one-time
Director-General of National Agency for Food and Drug Control and
Administration (NAFDAC), Professor Dora Akunyili who died at an Indian Hospital
recently.
The Ad-hoc
Committee which will be responsible for the State government’s involvement and
participation in the burial of Prof Dora Akunyili is chaired by the Secretary
to the State Government Mr. Oseloka Obaze.
The Committee will
work closely with the Akunyili family.
The Akunyili family
has fixed August 28, this year for the burial of the late Amazon at her
husband’s country-home at Agulu in Anaocha Local Government Area of the State.
Other members of
the Ad-hoc Committee which held its inaugural meeting on 18th June
2014 include; Chief of Staff to the Governor, Professor. Joe Asike; Hon.
Commissioner for Local Government, Mrs Azuka Enemuo; Hon. Commissioner for
Education; Dr. Victoria Chikwelu, Hon. Commissioner for Women Affairs,
Professor Kate Omenugha;nSpecial Assistant to the Governor on Events, Mr. Chido
Obidiegwu, and Mrs Dorothy Nwakaego Okafor.
Following the
confirmation of the death of the late Dora, Governor Obiano has shown great
concern to the deceased in his tributes and subsequently opened a condolence
register at the Government House, Awka.
While signing the
condolence register, governor Obiano wrote:
”Dora, my great lady! I remember my
last ride with you from my house in Houston to my diaspora function in down
town Houston on January 11, 2014.
We spoke at length.
Many thanks for your advice.
I also thank you
for your continued advice and love for Ndi Anambra two days to your departure
to India when I visited you in Abuja with my wife.
You are a great lady;
you are the best, the very best.
My family and I, Ndi
Anambra and the world will miss you.”
